Conveniently Virtual and Accessible
Good afternoon, everybody. Edward Kelly, your Oklahoma bankruptcy attorney, here with another 3 Minutes to Financial Freedom. And a question that I get a lot is, how physically difficult is it going to be for me to do this Chapter 7 bankruptcy?
Basically, how far have I got to drive? How much do I have to hoof it to get this done? And the good news is, as of now, bankruptcy can potentially be completely virtual, meaning you actually can do it without leaving your house. My office is set up for in-person or for virtual.
And the court, at least for the time being, is still on COVID protocols, meaning you do not have to go to the courthouse like you used to up until a couple of years ago. Everything is still by telephone. So if you have access to a fax or a scanner, and most home printers do have a scanner, and email, you can do it without leaving your house.
And I’ve had clients who have done exactly that. Some people have mobility issues and can’t leave the house. No longer an impediment. And you don’t have to do anything special or get any kind of court permission. That’s just the way it’s set up because of COVID.
So for the time being, and this could change any time, so if this is an issue you may want to file sooner rather than later, you don’t have to hoof it at all.
